Catching Up With Virginia Commit Chance Mallory

By Houston Wilson
After a lengthy decision-making process, 2025 guard Chance Mallory has recommitted to Virginia under new head coach Ryan Odom. Mallory spoke with Locker Room Access about his choice to remain in Charlottesville and what he’s looking forward to in playing for Coach Odom.
Mallory, a 5’10” point guard out of St. Anne’s-Belfield in Charlottesville, chose to stay home and play for the Wahoos out of a group of finalists that also included Maryland, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech. He’s ranked as the 55th overall player in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports composite.
"I chose UVA because it’s home—who wouldn’t want to play for their hometown team? I can’t imagine being anywhere else. I’ve lived here my entire life, and at the end of the day, Charlottesville just holds too much meaning for me."
Mallory expanded on the significance of playing in his hometown.
"Being able to play here in Charlottesville is everything to me. I’ve grown up watching UVA games, always been a big fan, and now it’s a childhood dream to have this opportunity."
Chance Mallory emphasized that “having people that are from here and want UVA to win… I feel like it helps the program a lot.”

Having followed Coach Odom’s teams closely, Mallory is confident in his ability to fit into the new system.
“I’m excited to be a part of the fast-paced style Coach Odom plans to bring to UVA. It suits my game perfectly—I thrive in transition and love pushing the tempo.”
When asked what Virginia fans can expect from him, Mallory’s response was clear: “They can expect an energetic, fast-paced guard who’s all about winning and making the game fun to watch.”
Mallory is currently the only recruit in the class of 2025 committed to Virginia. That could change in the weeks ahead, as the Wahoos are in the middle of a roster reset under new coach Ryan Odom. Seven players have entered the transfer portal so far, with more possible. There will undoubtedly be more new faces added to the program over the next couple months.
