Aldrich and new head coach Ryan Odom have an extensive history, dating back to their Hampden-Sydney days collegiately. Odom had previously had Aldrich serve as his director of recruiting at UMBC from 2016-2018 before Aldrich took the job at Longwood.
Aldrich had a very successful run at Longwood, going 127-100 overall while winning the Big South tournament twice, in 2022 and 2024. Aldrich also picked up Big South Coach of the Year honors in 2022.
Griff Aldrich hasn’t just found success professionally on the hardwood, however, as he has been very successful professionally outside the sport as well. He has a law degree from UVA and spent over a decade outside of basketball, being a partner at a successful law firm and also serving as managing director and chief financial officer at a private investment firm.Â
This is the first news of an addition to Ryan Odom’s Virginia staff, and it’s a very good one. Aldrich is well respected in the basketball community and has direct ties to the university and Ryan Odom. For more on the new era of UVA hoops, be sure to check out Ryan Odom’s presser tomorrow afternoon at 3. It’ll be open to the public and will air live on ACC Network.
