Ryan Dunn Talks UVA, Recruitment, and Potential Visits
Fast rising 2022 wing Ryan Dunn recently received an offer from Tony Bennett after a stellar July. As his recruitment ramps up heading into the fall and the talented, high ceiling big guard starts to narrow things down, he spoke with Locker Room Access about Virginia and where he is in his recruitment.
How Ryan Dunn earned his offer
Just last week Dunn set off for a weekend of playing in Atlantic City. Before his games got started, the Freeport, New York native received a call from Orlando Vandross telling that Bennett would be in attendance to check him out.
As Dunn points out, “apparently he liked what he saw,” because just a few days later Bennett and Dunn had a Zoom call and the head Wahoo offered Dunn a scholarship as a part of a potential 2022 dream class.
Ryan Dunn's thoughts on UVA
In terms of Dunn’s interest in Virginia, he admits that “I don’t know a lot about UVA,” but that he’s well aware that “it's a very good basketball program. They’re in the ACC, being very successful past years, going to the Final Four, I think they won it in 2019. Been top in the ACC conference.”
As for Bennett, Dunn says that he “seems like a really great guy. He speaks from the heart. He tells you what you need to hear,” and that “he doesn’t sugar coat anything and he tries to get to know you as a person more than an athlete.”
Ryan Dunn's recruitment process
Heading into the fall, Dunn is still adjusting to increased interest as his recruitment is blossoming. With that said, he emphasizes that he’s still in the process of planning out when and where he’ll visit.
“For me,” he says “it’s just about taking a bit of time off from all this right now. But my parents, my family, and my supporters are also trying to figure out which schools I’m going to visit and which days I’m going to do that.”
In a broader sense, Dunn is still adjusting to how his recruitment is blowing up. In response to a question regarding where he’s at in his process, he responded that “I don’t even know to be honest. This has been crazy for me. I’m new to this so I don’t really know when I’d try to
That said, he points out that “I want to cut it down soon and then just take it one day at a time to figure out when I want to commit and where I want to go.”
In terms of Virginia’s competition in Dunn’s recruitment, he listed Minnesota, Pitt, South Carolina. St. Joes. Hofstra. Oklahoma State. Texas A&M, Cal Berkeley, and Marquette as the schools with the most interest in him. Additionally, Georgetown offered him just earlier today.
