UVA Still Near The Edge In Latest Tourney Projection

Heading into the conference tournament this week, the Virginia Cavaliers may still have work to do in order to assure themselves of an NCAA bid.

As some of you know, I have been doing bracketology for several years.  I have been posting to the bracketmarix for 4 years now.  My entry is called RWX.  I finished tied for 4th in the bracketmatrix last year, my personal best.

UVA took care of business Saturday with a blowout of Georgia Tech. It was a needed win confidence wise and also kept the resume in check. Thankfully most bubble teams did not take advantage of their opportunities for huge wins this weekend, so Virginia remained pretty steady on my S Curve.

So here we are in conference tournament week, my personal favorite sports week of the year. So where does Virginia stand? Well, I have Virginia as my 4th team deep in the field which means they would be in Dayton.  I think right now Virginia would be compared closest with Seton Hall, Mississippi State, and Colorado’s resume. There are arguments to have UVA first in that list and last. I had them 3rd.

I think right now barring conference tournament chaos, Virginia will be in my field.  The last two spots, currently occupied by St. John's and New Mexico in my bracket, are most in doubt. The first 4/5 teams out have a good shot to move into those spots if they do well in their conference tournaments and St. John's/New Mexico bow out without a quality win. There is also the wildcard of two spots opening up if Dayton and FAU win their tournaments.

So, for Virginia, IMO win Thursday against Clemson/BC/Miami and you are a lock. Lose competitively, especially to Clemson, and you are probably still in good shape if not too much chaos occurs. A blowout loss could make it a little more perilous but still probably ok barring chaos. A fun but anxious week ahead!
