2021 Recruiting
As things stand, Virginia has three available scholarships for the class of 2021. On the heels of back to back strong classes, this will be a more challenging year to recruit. Hopefully that'll be off-set by the momentum of winning a national title and having three early entry draft picks. Here's a rundown of the early candidates. The list will surely expand over the next few months as coaches make their Fall rounds. All rankings per 247Sports Composite.
6'3 PG Carter Whitt of Leesville (NC) Ranked #49
Offered 10/18. Visited 2/19. Twitter Instagram
Others involved: NC State, Florida, Maryland, Boston College
Carter plans to decide in Spring whether to move up into the 2020 class. It seems like a wide open recruitment. He's doing a tour of visits this Fall to Florida, Ohio State, Boston College, and probably others. UVA has already had him on grounds three times over the past two years. He's a terrific fit. Our problem is others can offer a more clear path to an immediate role, especially if he chooses to reclassify.
6'1 PG Cam Hayes of Greensboro Day (NC) Ranked #29
Offered 2/19 on visit. Twitter Instagram
Others involved: Tennessee, NC State, Louisville, Maryland
Cam will almost certainly move back into his original 2020 class. He recently visited Maryland and has set Fall official visits to NC State, Louisville, and Florida State. The UVA staff loves this guy. They were on him last summer before his recruitment exploded. However, it looks like he'll not only move up in class but likely make a Fall decision that UVA won't factor into.
6'5 SG Trevor Keels of Paul VI (VA) Ranked #34
Offered 2/19 on visit Instagram
Others involved: Villanova, Maryland, Georgetown, Florida
Trevor is a big versatile guard who's drawn comparisons to Malcolm Brogdon. He was Co-Player of the Year in arguably the nation's best conference as a sophomore. His recruitment will only expand as time passes. I expect him to be someone UVA prioritizes. As with all these guys, we'll find out more about that over the next few months.
6'6 SG Max Christie of Rolling Meadows (IL) Ranked #12
Offered 6/19, hasn't visited. Twitter Instagram
Others involved: Duke, Villanova, Indiana, Michigan State
Max is an elite possibly one-and-done talent. He's another Bennett type guard, heady and versatile. It's easy to see why they offered so quickly after watching him at Top 100 camp. Obviously the competition for his services is stiff, especially with Duke already jumping in.
6'9 PF Caleb Furst of Blackhawk Christian (IN) Ranked #31
Offered 8/19, hasn't visited. Twitter Instagram
Others involved: Purdue, Indiana, Stanford, Michigan State
Caleb is the most recent recipient of a Virginia offer. It didn't come as a surprise after Bennett personally tracked him all summer. Great combination of physicality and skill. As we know, Tony loves his fellow lefties. If there's an early favorite, it's probably Purdue. UVA is trying to get him down for an official visit this Fall.
7'0 C Efton Reid of Steward (VA) Ranked #28
Offered 6/19, visited 11/18. Twitter Instagram
Others involved: Maryland, VA Tech, VCU, Florida
The coaching staff has done a great job of building an early relationship with Efton. He's already visited multiple times. We don't know for sure who all is involved because he doesn't talk about recruiting. There are definitely more offers on the table than has been reported.
6'3 PG Isa Silva of Jesuit (CA) Ranked #32
No offer, hasn't visited. Twitter Instagram
Others involved: Stanford, USC, Arizona, Vanderbilt
Bennett seemed to stumble onto Isa back during the April AAU live period. He kept coming back for more all summer. The flashy point guard is a friend of UVA commit Jabri Abdur-Rahim from his time in Sacramento. No offer as of yet.
6'7 SF Quincy Allen of Maret (DC) Ranked #19
No offer, visited 2/19. Twitter Instagram
Others involved: Syracuse, Georgetown, Clemson, NC State
Quincy has been closely monitored since catching Coach Williford's eye over the winter. Long athletic guard oozes potential and continues to improve. He came down for a game last season, ans has mentioned the possibility of returning for an official this Fall.
Special thanks to Andy Ferguson for the headline image of Cam Hayes.
