Around LRA

Around LRA

By Josh Burton

New to programming this year, we will be posting a blog summarizing all the things going on around Locker Room Access once every couple weeks. This will be a good spot to catch up on anything you may have missed or get the quick hits for things you didn’t have the time to look over during the week. Hope everyone enjoys a look into LRA!

Women's Basketball Has Impressive Start

First off, shoutout Hooandtrue for not only starting a thread to cover the women’s season, but also for keeping us all informed on the team's happenings and progress this season. They have gotten off to an impressive start, going 4-2 with a close loss to defending NCAA champion LSU on Saturday night. They will be back in action on Thursday night as they host Missouri for the ACC/SEC Challenge. Keep up with them all season in the UVA women’s basketball 2023- 2024 thread!

Dragon’s Picks

As most have seen, each week our very own BDragon does a gambling preview for the week ahead. Going into Week 13 he is an impressive 64-50-2 overall and coming off a 4-4 week. With thoughtful explanations for the lines he chooses, give the Weekly Dragon’s College Football Picks threads a look if that’s your vibe!

The JWilly Show

Making its triumphant return this basketball season, the JWilly Show is back and better than ever with 2 episodes already airing this season. You can check out the first episode linked here, and second episode linked here. Be sure to keep up with one of the best shows for all things UVA Men’s Basketball all season long!

Crazy Reactions

GulfCoastHoo started a fun thread that will take you right down memory lane by asking one simple question… “What’s the craziest reaction…good or bad… you’ve ever had to a single play?” From the multitude of moments on UVA’s incredible 2019 national championship journey to Sean Singletary’s fall away shot against Duke in 2007 (thanks jastro2 for that one!) to Chris Taylor’s game winner in the 2011 Super Regionals (shoutout Wahoo88 and UVApride7 both for this one!) to the 2019 football team's memorable victory over Virginia Tech, every great sporting memory is covered in this awesome thread. Be sure to check out the “Your craziest fan reaction to a single play?” for a fun trip back in time to some of the greatest highlights of UVA athletics.

Cory-Gate

Lastly and (at least for the timing of this particular post) certainly not least, we had plenty of takes on UVA Alum and ESPN announcer Cory Alexander's role in the overturning of a review in the recent men’s basketball game against Florida where the original review gave Virginia the ball, but on a second review using the television monitor at Cory’s station the call was overturned to give Florida the ball back. (Shoutout Hooandtrue once again for the great title!) This has been a major point of conversation for Wahoo Nation since the moment it happened, particularly the role of the announcer when a review is taking place. From defending Cory to pointing out that an announcer shouldn’t have any factor into a call being made, the debate has been wide spanning over almost all UVA basketball forums, and it’s seemed like everyone has had an opinion on the matter. The good news, as MaineWahoo pointed out in the Cory-Gate thread is that Cory said he's spoken with everyone and it is all now water under the bridge.

Be sure to check back for all the quick hits you may have missed on Locker Room Access!
