May Madness: LRA NBA 2k20 Tournament First Round Recap

The Locker Room Access NBA 2k20 Tournament has gotten off to a whirlwind of a start. Major upsets, blowout victories, and nail-biting finishes made the first round as thrilling as any tournament in March has ever been.

#1 overall seed Kyle Guy finally put all his high seed concerns to bed with a fifteen-point victory over Bennett Porter. Facing Guy in the second round is none other than Nathan Acorn, who upset recent LRA podcast guest London Perrantes, 59-45.

Chuck Davis came out on top in his contest with Shane Carson, winning by a mere five points, 54-49. Davis will have a tough second round matchup against Carolina Panthers’ safety Quin Blanding, who beat Scott Ratcliffe 45-40.

Chargers’ fifth-round pick Joe Reed wasn’t able to follow up his selection with a first-round victory, as Jackson Hairfield came out on top in a twenty-five-point drubbing. Hairfield meets Olamide Zaccheaus in the second round after the Atlanta receiver beat Wahoops founder Gray Ellington by a similarly eye-popping margin, 65-35.

Jeremy Rinaca beat Ellen Goldlust 66-21 in their first-round contest. Rinaca has a tough second round matchup with Eli Bennett after the young Bennett won 64-48 over Allison Gehman.

College World Series champion pitcher Connor Jones took an early lead on Kevin Rogers and never looked back, winning 88-30. Jones will be playing former Virginia All American tennis player Luca Corinteli, who upset Hasise Dubois in a two-point, 51-49 thriller.

Grant Kersey further solidified his place in Virginia basketball lore with his victory over Lance Geismar. Kersey will be facing Jacob Dunagin in the second round following Dunagin’s nine-point victory over Zach Herriot.

Former Virginia defensive back Ahmad Hawkins met his match in the first round, losing to Micah Fraction by eight points, 54-46. Fraction will now tip of versus Joshua Burton, who took care of business in his contest against Phony Bennnett, 62-12.

Kodie Critzer’s victory over Tim Harris sets up an interesting second round contest with TW Huang, who topped Robert Fox 60-41. Critzer and Huang have been the men behind the operation at Locker Room Access, and they’ll each be looking to seize the spotlight with a victory.

Former Virginia tight end Jake McGee beat Ryan Baker 58-51. The Pittsburgh Steeler now has a second-round contest with Cam Anderson following Anderson’s victory over UVa basketball alum Doug Browman.

Sean Singletary took a ten-point win over All American swimmer Zach Fong, 52-42, and set up a point guard versus point guard contest with Kobe Jerome, who beat Eli Lifland by eleven in his first game of the tournament.

Remy Nelson beat Christian Porter in their first found game. Nelson now faces Ryan Greer after Greer beat former Virginia basketball manager Austin Nelson, 60-32.

Former Virginia left-handed pitcher Riley Wilson advanced to the second round after beating former UVa place kicker Danny Simms Jr., 62-47. Wilson will tip of against Alex Turner after Turner came out on top of Luke Bowanko, the former Virginia football center, in a nail-biting 68-66 contest.
