It’s been a very busy weekend for new UVA Men’s Basketball coach Ryan Odom, hosting a few potential transfers. The biggest of the bunch arrived yesterday, Nevada forward Nick Davidson.

6’10” forward averaged 15.8 points and 6.5 rebounds last season. He’s considered one of the best players on the market.
The 6’10” Davidson is coming off a junior season in which he averaged 15.8 points and 6.5 rebounds. He’s a capable shooter, knocking down over 37% from three-point range on good volume this season. Davidson also picked up Second Team All Mountain West honors.
Familiar Name
Coach Ryan Odom has some loose ties here, dating back to his days at Utah State. Odom coached against Davidson during his freshman year there. This past season their paths crossed again as Odom’s VCU squad took on Davidson and Nevada as part of the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic.
Davidson is widely considered one of the best players in the portal, including ranking seventh currently on Evan Miya’s rankings. He’s a very efficient scorer, with not only the good three-point percentage mentioned earlier but also converting 50% from the field. He’s a capable scorer and a stat sheet stuffer, having put up nine games this season of 20+ points and four double-doubles.
There’s also potential for this to be a two-for-one scenario, with Nick’s younger brother Blake Davidson along for the visit. He’s a high school senior at Mater Dei (CA). The 6’7 forward was committed to Nevada but recently decommitted.
Final Five
Davidson is a big “first swing” for Odom and staff as one of the first visitors of the transfer portal season. He’s also moving fairly quickly with the process, cutting his list down to five. The other four involved are Clemson, Notre Dame, Texas and Washington. Nick visited Clemson earlier this week and might be heading to Notre Dame next, however whether that happens is unclear at this point.

Davidson is Virginia's third visitor of the weekend, following VCU transfers Brandon Jennings and Luke Bamgboye. With most of UVA’s roster from last season in the transfer portal themselves, Ryan Odom has his work cut out rebuilding the roster. A commitment or three in the coming days would be a great start.
