Virginia adds Transfer Guard Duke Miles

By Josh Burton

The hits just keep coming for new University of Virginia Men’s Basketball Coach Ryan Odom, as 6’2” Oklahoma guard Duke Miles becomes the latest portal addition for the Wahoos. Miles is the third commitment in three days, joining Sam Lewis and Jacari White. He will have one season to play.

About Miles

Duke Miles is coming off a good season at Oklahoma, averaging 9.4 points per game while shooting 43% from three-point range on modest volume. He’s bounced around a little, having played at High Point the season before and having spent three seasons at Troy.

His last season at Troy and only season at High Point were both exceptional, averaging 14 points and 17.5 points per game, respectively. At Oklahoma, his numbers declined as freshman guard Jeremiah Fears ran the show. Miles is certainly capable of much more than he showed in his role with the Sooners.

How It Happened

Miles is a guy who Odom and staff had been connected to, he was supposedly in the process of setting up a visit for when the dead period ends. The main connection here and (probable) driving force in this recruitment is UVA Associate Head Coach Griff Aldrich. Griff coached against Miles while in the Big South at Longwood.

Although a visit was being set up, it ended up not being a necessity. As was the case with the other two commits, Odom made an aggressive pitch and took a big swing to get Miles on board before the dead period ends. Now with three new guards in the fold, the roster is beginning to take shape and they’ll have more of an idea of who/what to target for the visiting stages.

What’s Next

With the addition of Miles, Virginia is up to seven projected players for the 2025-26 season.  Still plenty of work to do.  They’ll need to add at least five more.

The Hoos are close to filling up the guard room as they’ll be joining incoming first year Chance Mallory and (presumably) Elijah Gertrude. While the staff will most likely add another guard, their main attention should now turn to the frontcourt.

In the new era of the portal and NIL recruiting isn’t how it used to be… visits aren’t required anymore. As it becomes tighter to find info, consider joining Locker Room Access VIP. You won’t find better coverage on the internet, guaranteed.
