Intel Report 3/17/25: Waiting Game Reading Virginia's First Portal Entry is Sophomore Blake Buchanan Next College Coaches Dish Out NCAA Tournament Takes

Virginia's First Portal Entry is Sophomore Blake Buchanan

Virginia's First Portal Entry is Sophomore Blake Buchanan

The transfer portal officially opens on Monday, March 24th.  Many players are already making their intention to enter the portal known.  That's the case for Virginia sophomore forward Blake Buchanan.  The Idaho native is the first Wahoo to be reported as planning to enter his name.

Blake was a former Top 100 ranked recruit who was a consistent part of the Virginia rotation in his two seasons, starting 28 games.  He led the Wahoos in rebounds (5.4 per game) and blocked shots (1.1 per game) this year, while averaging 5.4 points.

Virginia is currently without a head coach, following the retirement of Tony Bennett in October and the decision not to retain interim coach Ron Sanchez.   The opening is expected to be filled within the next week or two, once potential candidates finish up postseason play with their current teams.

It's not very surprising news.  Blake was believed to be heading out, as we told VIP subscribers in Monday's Intel Report.  There will be more portal entries, as is always the case during a coaching change. Stay tuned to LRA.
