DaRon Holmes talks UVA official visit.
Class of 2021 Millennium (AZ) forward DaRon Holmes was on grounds this past weekend on an official visit. Ranked 27th by Rivals among all juniors nationally, he picked up a Virginia offer in October after the staff had evaluated him over the summer.
Joined by his parents as well as some extended family, the experience seems to have made a strong impression on DaRon.
"Words cannot describe" he said when asked how the visit went. "The program has a lot of what I'm looking for."
His father grabbed the attention of fans by listing the five pillars in a tweet over the weekend, believed to be a first from the family of a visiting recruit.
The program's philosophy and family atmosphere hit home with DaRon.
He called the five pillars a great foundation and said "The culture stood out." "Many things stood out, but especially the culture. And the amount of care the coaching staff gives to the players."
Head coach Tony Bennett didn't need to look far to find success stories under his tutelage with similar attributes as the 6'9 long and agile forward.
"They compared me to DeAndre Hunter and Mamadi Diakite. They were really detailed in their vision for me, and explained everything effectively. I have great relationship with the coaches."
It's a familar tune that we heard from the weekend's other visitor, priority class of 2021 recruit Efton Reid of The Steward School in Richmond, who DaRon described as amazing.
Efton's mother, Maria Reid, said "I was impressed with Coach Bennett's attention to detail in explaining how they would use my son in his program."
As for Holmes, look for him to take his time with the recruiting process and concentrate on the upcoming season at Millennium for now. But expect Virginia to be a major factor going forward.
